Our Party BlogHave your say about all things democraticAugust 4, 2008RADIO ADS REFLECT CANDIDATE WITH HIGH NEGATIVES
In response to the local Republican Chair's accusation that the Hamilton County Democratic Party has gone negative in the sheriff's race, I would like to remind my counterpart that there are times when strong opposition is necessary against a candidate with high negatives. We want voters to hear the truth. The high negatives that Jim Hammond brought to this special election are well documented in local news reports over the last 20 years. We assume the Republican Party was well aware of Hammond's high negatives since it was Republicans who first ran negative ads against then Democratic candidate for sheriff Jim Hammond in the 1990s. It's time the Republican Party come clean and act honestly with voters. It's time Republican leadership tell the voters of Hamilton County why Republicans were right for bitterly opposing Hammond twice in the past, but now have forgotten that bitter opposition while rejecting a longtime Republican Vince Dean for their sheriff candidate. Voters deserve a complete explanation from Republican leadership about this turnabout, including why they gave strong support to John Cupp against Jim Hammond in two elections, why they attack harshly Hammond as part of corruption in the past, and why they suddenly changed this year to support the man they so despised in the past. The numerous news stories concerning budget increases averaging 14% per year, frequent jail escapes, and numerous indictments, as well as officials serving prison time, during Hammond's tenure as chief deputy are merely the facts, not politics, and were publicized in the local newspapers for two decades. Jim Hammond even struggled getting editorial endorsements because of his association with corruption and incompetence. We are only repeating what so many Republicans have said about Hammond for years. These radio ads were produced and paid for by the Hamilton County Democratic Party, not Greg Beck who knew nothing about them. I encourage voters to make up their own minds about the radio ads running on WGOW-FM or at Listen to Ads Here. I think voters will see a clear contrast between a leader like Greg Beck and his opponents. This post has 1 reply... Have you sent this to the paper? A lot of people do not have the internet.
